Mr Vanhegan has 25 years of medico-legal experience and has prepared over 15,000 medical reports. He sees approximately 300 new cases each year, and has given evidence and been cross-examined in Court in over 150 cases. He is currently called to give evidence about eight times each year.
He is on the data base of Forensic Healthcare and the Criminal Injury Compensation Authority (CICA).
He is a member of the Society of Expert Witnesses.

During this period Mr. Vanhegan received 288 instructions, 60% for Claimants, 30% for Defendants, and 10% on a Joint Basis which were Disability Discrimination Cases and Tribunal Hearings for Firefighter and Police Pension Appeals.

In 1999 Mr Vanhegan was appointed by the Inland Revenue (now HMRC) because of his objectivity to join a panel of experts specialising in Upper Limb Disorder (RSI).
Since May 2004 he has been on the Board of Medical Referees for the Firemen's Pension Scheme Order 1992, under the auspices of Health Management Limited, 115 Southwark Bridge Road, London SE1 0AX.
He examines and reports for the Veterans' Administration, Federal Benefits Unit, Embassy of the United States of America.
He visits claimants to examine and report for Permanent Health Insurance underwriters — Generali, Unum, Sun Life of Canada, Akeso Care Management - USA — dealing with about 30 such claims a year.
